Background

The goal of the Lower-Emission School Bus Program is to reduce school children's exposure to cancer-causing and smog-forming pollution from public school buses throughout California. Lower-Emission School Bus funds are available to replace older school buses and reduce tailpipe emissions.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District provides grant funds to replace pre-1987 engine model year school buses with new, cleaner emission school buses, retrofit in-use diesel school buses and replace expiring CNG fuel tanks. Participation in this grant program is voluntary and open to public school districts in Sacramento County - with bus terminals located in Sacramento County.

For Three Way School Bus Replacement opportunities, please visit The Sacramento Emergency Clean Air & Transportation (SECAT) Grant Program website.
