What is Eligible for PERP?
Examples of portable equipment units and portable engines and engine driven equipment that may be eligible for a portable equipment registration include but are not limited to:
- portable generator rated 50 horsepower or greater
- portable air compressor powered by a 50 horsepower or greater engine
- rock crushing & screening units
- portable concrete batch plants
- abrasive blasting units
- wood - chippers
- street sweepers with an auxiliary engine (powering the sweeper)
PERP registered equipment may operate under specific conditions throughout the State without obtaining a stationary source permit to operate. PERP registered equipment may not operate as part of a stationary source or a facility that has Sac Metro Air District permits. For more information about what is considered a stationary source please contact the Sac Metro Air District at 279-207-1122 or email perp@airquality.org .
Please note that CARB adopted changes to the PERP regulation and Portable Engine Air Toxic Control Measure, changing the fleet averaging requirements, and issuing new phase out dates for Tier 1, 2, and 3 - diesel fueled engines. New engine registrations will need to meet emission standards outlined in the regulation to be eligible for a PERP registration. In some cases, portable equipment may not qualify for a PERP registration, and a local permit to operate may be the only option to operate equipment legally in Sacramento County.
