Incentive Programs

The Sac Metro Air District offers various incentive programs for residents, businesses, and public agencies to improve air quality in the Sacramento region and reduce the cost of less polluting equipment and vehicles. See the details below about our programs to see how you can participate.

Please note: Sac Metro Air District does not have incentive funds for trucks and equipment not in compliance with the California Air Resources Board. If you are not in compliance and need assistance, please contact:

2025 Community Air Quality Grant Solicitation

Status: Opening Soon

​The Sac Metro Air Di​​​strict has allocated over $13 million in mobile source incentive funding to improve air quality and promote clean​er technology in Sacramento. Funding is available ​to replace existing heavy-duty vehicles with zero or near-zero-emission trucks and buses, replace older farm tractors and off-road equipment, install low-carbon​ fueling infrastr​ucture, and fund other innovative clean air projects supporting community greening. On-road and infrastructure applications will open on May 1, 2025. Community CarShare Program

The Community CarShare Program is a pilot car-sharing program to benefit disadvantaged communities in the greater Sacramento area.

Clean Cars 4 All

Clean Cars 4 All helps low-income Sacramento County residents get a new mobility option when they turn in an old vehicle for scrap. Residents can either get a grant up to $9,500 towards the purchase of a new or nearly new plug-in electric, fully battery-electric, or hydrogen vehicle; or choose the Alternative Transportation Option with up to $7,500 to access public, private, and shared mobility options.

Wood Stove / Fireplace Change Out

The Wood Stove Change-Out Program provides funding for the replacement of older, polluting fireplaces and wood stoves with certified cleaner burning units. Environmental justice zones receive slightly more funding than non-environmental justice zones.

Infrastructure Incentives 
 

Charlene McGhee Memorial Lawn and Garden Program

Incentives for businesses and organizations to replace old, polluting lawn and garden equipment with commercial zero-emission, battery-electric equipment.

Project examples: Chainsaws, pole pruners, leaf blowers, lawn mowers (walk-behind, stand-on, ride-on), and trimmers.

Agricultural & Construction Equipment Replacement  
 

Off-Road Equipment Replacement

Incentives to replace Tier 3 and older or gasoline high-polluting off-road equipment with Tier 4 Final or zero-emission level equipment. Applies to existing diesel self-propelled equipment 25 HP or greater operating primarily in Sacramento County.

Project examples: Electric UTVs, farm equipment, construction equipment, industrial equipment (tractors, loaders, forklifts, etc...)

On-Road Equipment Replacement

Incentives for cleaner replacement vehicles or expansion of zero-emission on-road equipment in fleets.

Project examples: Heavy-duty trucks, school buses, drayage, shuttles, transit vehicles, refuse trucks, etc.

Incentives to help fund the new installation of charging and fueling infrastructure. Click here to learn more.

Agricultural & Construction Equipment Replacement  
 

Reimbursement of up to $40,000 to improve transit stops with ADA accessibility infrastructure, seating, shelter, shade trees, and/or solar-powered lighting. Public transit agencies or organizations that have or maintain transit stops or stations located in the South Sacramento-Florin AB617 Designated Community are eligible to apply.
